I'm Joshua. I started Tekton because I'd rather be outside figuring out why your front bed has been bothering you for the last two years than sitting behind a desk somewhere.
Tekton is the Greek word for craftsman. It describes a builder who knows his trade and takes pride in doing the job well. It's also where the word "architect" comes from, through arkhitekton, meaning chief craftsman.
There's another reason the name stuck with me. Tekton is the word used to describe Jesus's trade before his ministry. When I was trying to figure out what to call this company, that connection meant something to me. The name felt like a good fit for the kind of business I wanted to build.
What I like most about landscaping is actually pretty simple. Someone calls me because there's something about their property that's been bothering them. Maybe their beds are overgrown, the lawn is struggling, or there's a project they've been putting off because they don't know where to start. I get to come in, figure out what's going on, and help take care of it.
That's also why I ask a lot of questions before I start working on someone's property. If you tell me you want a garden bed mulched, I'll probably ask a few questions about what you don't like about it now. Sometimes the mulch really is all it needs. Other times, that simple request is actually part of a bigger problem that's been frustrating you for a while. I'd rather understand that upfront than do exactly what you asked and leave you wondering why the yard still doesn't look the way you wanted it to.
I had one client come to me after two larger companies had turned down his project because they considered it too small. When we met, I didn't really care how big or small the job was. I just wanted to know what he needed help with. We walked the property, talked through everything, and it ended up becoming one of the larger projects I quoted that year.
It wasn't because I tried to sell him more work. Once we started talking, he realized there were several things he wanted done and finally had someone willing to take the time to go through them with him. We're still working together, and it's become one of the client relationships I value most.
I'm 25, and Tekton is still a small business. I have a wife, a small household, and a company I'm building one job and one customer at a time. I'm not trying to make Tekton feel like some huge landscaping company. I want you to know who you're hiring and feel comfortable asking questions about the work being done on your property.
That's really what the name Tekton comes back to for me. Know your trade. Care about the work. Listen to the person you're doing it for. And do the job in a way you'll still be proud of years from now.
Straightforward work, priced fairly, done by the person who owns the company. These are one-time or as-needed services. If you'd rather have your property handled all year on a set plan, take a look at Property Care instead.
Weekly or biweekly on a flat monthly contract, or a one-time cut if that's all you need. Mow, trim, edge and blow every visit, $70 a cut.
I clear leaves from the lawn and beds and haul everything away. Nothing left in piles or blown onto a neighbor's yard.
I remove debris from gutters and downspouts by hand, and check for clogs or backup before I leave.
I put fresh mulch over existing beds, or do a full clean-out and redo. Spread flat and even, kept off the trunk of any trees or shrubs.
I pull plugs from compacted soil so air, water, and nutrients can reach the roots, then reseed any thin or bare patches.
I pick plants, shrubs, and trees suited to the site and light, and lay them out so a bed looks intentional instead of scattered.
I clear leaves, debris, and overgrowth to reset a yard for the season, and haul away everything I clear.
I cut in the right place at the right time of year, not just knock a shrub back to size. That's what keeps a plant healthy instead of just smaller.
I keep beds weeded so they look cared for, not just mulched once and left alone. Available on a recurring schedule if you want it.
I fix bare or damaged spots with new sod, or lay a full section fresh, for jobs smaller than a full lawn renovation.
I clear overgrown brush, brambles, saplings, and small trees to open up unused or overgrown ground. Priced per job after I see the site.
I haul off yard waste, old furniture, and junk taking up space on your property. Priced per job after I see what needs to go.

"It was a pleasure working with Joshua! He was very flexible and worked around my schedule. He completed the jobs I had for him in a timely manner. He worked efficiently and did a great job! I received compliments from the neighbor as soon as he finished! Highly recommend!"
"I would, and will, hire Joshua again and again! He was more than professional, attentive, earnest and hard-working. He is the exact type of person you want to hire and support. I found Joshua on Nextdoor, but have already referred him personally to many friends and family!"
"I am very happy with the work Joshua did. He did a great job grading the back half of my property so I could put a shed back in there."
"What a motivated and great young professional. He showed up, did a great job, and was reasonably priced. I would definitely use him again."
